Snow = Food

Looking outside, it doesn't seem like yesterday's blizzard delivered quite the amount of snowfall that was originally forecasted for us. It would have only taken a couple of inches for me to happily declare myself snowed in, though.

That makes this a great weekend to follow my first order from the Lehigh Valley Food Coop. This was from my Thursday order, which turned out to be more than I thought.

Potatoes, sweet potatoes, lemons, pears...

Spinach, carrots, apple butter...

Yes, that is a carrot next to the apple butter. Short, fat, funky looking carrots. Word is that they are super sweet. I can't wait to try them.

Brown eggs, which Ali can't wait to try simply because she's always wanted to try a brown egg. I hope she's not disappointed when she can't tell the difference.

There's raw cheddar cheese, and really nice looking broccoli.

Pasta sauce from Butter Valley Harvest, made in Bally, PA.

And some Sumatra coffee beans. Locally roasted and very fresh.

(These were delivered to us on December 17th.)

I am currently planning today's menu, which somehow needs to include most of the fresh things from Thursday's order. Maybe some eggs florentine with home fries for breakfast, broccoli cheddar soup for lunch, and sweet potato pancakes with roasted carrots for dinner.

Let it snow.

This all looks so good! Will you let us know what you ended up making? (Those carrots are pretty funky looking!)

JD: I made spinach and feta omelets, but still had a bunch of spinach left that I need to toss today. I had good intentions for the broccoli, but it's still sitting in the fridge. Maybe if it's still perky I'll make some soup with it tonight, actually. The carrots were my favorite. I roasted them along with the sweet potatoes, and I think Ali ate 2 lbs herself. Since it was such a hit I've ordered more of both and will be making them again for Christmas!

Your co-op looks great. We have been trying to start a storefront co-op here for several years now. To bring it to fruition in this economy has been terribly difficult. I hope yours is successful and grows.

Merry Christmas!

Mmmm, feta!!!!

Hope you had a wonderful Christmas. I'm assuming it was white. If so, I'm verrry jealous.

PS: Feel free to root for the team in crimson on January 7th.

Will: So far so good. I can't wait until summer, it's only going to get better. I visited your blog, and with your brains and background I'm sure you can make a great coop happen!

Bone: I've caught Ali dipping into the feta numerous times, she loves it too!
And I'm not engaging in any sports talk with you. Bad things always happen for my teams when I do...

Haha. Well, it's Dallas/Philly for the NFC East this weekend!

Also, when I first read the title of this post I was thinking/hoping you were gonna be posting a recipe for snow creme :)

Bone: We are planning a trip in February and just realized we need to adjust it due to the Superbowl. So yeah, we're feeling a little confident around our house.

What in the world is snow creme? Is that like strawberry pretzel?

Bone, I honestly didn't think I could despise them more than I already did. I was wrong.

And I don't know of another scenario that would have me cheering like crazy for Brett Favre like I will be this weekend.

I can handle that. As long as you weren't rooting for Texas Thursday night.

And if you were, don't tell me, because I don't think we could still be friends after that :)

Bone: I was happy to see Alabama win. I have no love for Texas. I guess the hatred of the NFL team is applied to the whole state.

Didn't realize PSU plays Bama next year. I'm already worried. Please don't engage me in any conversations the week before, you are my jinx.
